Dr Dainik Patel believes in a holistic and personalised approach to care, ensuring his patients are well supported and comfortable during their cancer treatment and beyond. He is actively researching patient attitudes and use for alternative and complementary medicines.

Biography

Dr Dainik Patel is an experienced medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Adelaide and Icon Cancer Centre Windsor Gardens. He undertook his undergraduate medical studies in India and subsequently completed basic physician training at Adelaide’s The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He completed advanced medical oncology training at Flinders Medical Centre, Lyell McEwin Hospital and Royal Adelaide Hospital. During his medical oncology research fellowships at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Dr Patel gained extensive knowledge and experience in managing and treating gastrointestinal cancers and neuroendocrine tumours. In 2015 he received certification from the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) after passing the exam in Vienna. Returning to Australia in 2016 he was appointed as staff medical oncologist at Lyell McEwin Hospital and also commenced private practice at Icon Cancer Centre (formerly known as Adelaide Cancer Centre).

Dr Patel has been involved in the design and execution of multiple research projects in colorectal cancer, neuroendocrine tumours, lung cancer, melanoma, geriatric oncology and supportive care. He is principal investigator of multiple international trials and affiliated with multiple research organisations. Dr Patel is passionate about medical education and using clinical research and technology to deliver education and empower patients to make informed decisions. He also serves as a honorary senior lecturer at University of Adelaide and examiner for Royal Australia College of Physicians (RACP).

His clinical experience covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies with a clinical interest in lung cancer, prostate cancer, urinary cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, neuroendocrine tumours, rare cancers, young onset cancers and breast cancer.
